Yay for House things

So things with the house have been going pretty awesomely. Seth and I are completely out of the apartment now that it's March. We've still got some miscellanea that was in storage at the apartment in the living room to go through and put away, though that should be done this weekend. We've also got all of our pictures to hang still. Need to get nails and all that. And figure out how to hang an enormously heavy 5'x3' solid wood framed mirror. (Only $5 from an antique store/flea market when we visited Seth's Dad a couple years ago!) Other than that, I'm determined to be organized in this house. I don't have the excuse that we'll be moving eventually to neglect getting proper storage for all my stuff anymore even. The worst culprit for me has been my fabric stash which in our apartment was 'neatly stacked' on the floor of the closet. (It quickly devolved into a random enormous pile of fabric that I couldn't find anything in. Surprise, surprise.) To that end, I hit up Ikea today and....

Yay for organizing your house! It must be so nice to be in a long-term house and have all that space. I can't wait to see what you do with it! Make sure to google how to hang really heavy stuff on the walls so you don't have to re-do your walls. Also, I recommend the Command Strips (3M, I think, or Scotch) for hanging pictures instead of nails. That way you can rearrange later without re-mudding and re-painting. Are you painting? I wish I could come out there and help you!

I would rather re-drywall than try to pick off the gunk that 3M hanging sticky things leave on the wall.

When I hang anything heavy I like to use drywall anchors (like this: http://2ndfloorliving.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/plastic1.jpg). You can drill a hole for them if you have a drill, or just use a screwdriver and hammer to punch a hole in the drywall.

Even better for really heavy stuff is to get a stud finder and put a wood screw right into the wooden stud.
