There's been a periodic metallic rattling in the house these past couple of days. If we were in the old apartment I'd assume it was construction on the metro line half a mile away or so. (The jackhammers were that loud) As it is, I found out what it is this morning! ... There's a woodpecker attacking the metal cap on top of an exhaust vent on the roof...

You'll want to make sure that there's no bird's nest in the vent. If there is, it can clog the chimney and force CO2 back down into your house!
You do have CO2 detectors, right?
It's not the chimney it's pecking at, but some other sort of vent up there. On the subject of the chimney, we aren't planning on using it until next winter since it's getting warm, but we'll definitely get it checked first!
